Inspired by the postcode of Islington in London, the N180 multimedia desktop speaker was designed to depict the paradox of this area. On the surface, it appears as wealthy and elegant yet being one of the poorest boroughs in London, it is rife with poverty underneath.
Being a 3-sided pyramid, one face forms the speaker grill whilst the others demonstrate the paradox through the 3D indents and outdents which alternate on each face. Furthermore, the pearlescent finish serves to demonstrate this idea of superficiality.
Through this project, I learnt the value of having a strong concept behind a design as it is integral in communicating both the underlying meaning and surface funcitonality of a product.
